Spring Micro CSUSB Blog #3

The next time you think: "I wonder if __________ is an example of demand and supply"....make a note and jot down your thoughts here in the blog. For example, as I drove into the Post Office parking lot, there was a line of cars. Does this have anything to do with demand and supply? Sure! The demand for parking spaces was greater than the supply of available spaces....see?

  1. I thought about this recently with makeup. For any girls who recognize this brand and palette, Urban Decay's Naked eye shadow palette is always sold out like crazy. I was lucky to buy one after 6 months of searching and waiting. The day I bought mine, there was a long line in Sephora, and I was happy to get one of the last 4 left! While having a conversation with an employee about this palette and why it's constantly sold out, I found out that Urban Decay does not supply enough of this palette on a regular basis. The demand for it is very high amongst women, but the supply is very low, and once shipment is usually sent out, it is gone within a day. 6 months of waiting was definitely worth it though! I hope that's an example of what this question was looking for.

  2. Apple company recently product Ipad2, and since it is super thin, many persons want to get it soon. As far as I know, our bookstore of university sell Ipad2 out already. And if we still want to get one, we need wait in line for next shipment from factory. so in the case, the demand for Ipad2 is much greater than the supply of available Ipad2 sold in our bookstore.

  3. Today I went to walmart to buy some Yuban coffee. They usually have it a lot cheaper than most stores. It cost about $6.49. But,every time I go to get some they are always out of stock. So, I end up having to drive down to Stater Brothers and pay almost $9.00 for it. It is really expensive but, I do not like any of the other brands so I buy it.

  4. Every time I go to Walmart to buy two or three things I always have to wait a good amount of time just to get those three items. This is because the demand for cashiers in Walmart are really high and you usually just have like four people working on them. I think this is a perfect example of the supply being short of the demand.

  5. I'm still attempting to purchase the book for this class but the prices are way past my budget in order for me to purchase it. Clearly the demand for it is still high since the sales are high as well. I'm hoping that these sellers will realize that the demand for them has gone down now that it's 3 weeks into the quarter and that they will lower the prices so I can have this Econ book at my convenience.

  6. Whenever we apply the class in college, we always face the rule of demand/supply. In college, there are many good professor like Jill Harris :), so many students want to apply her class. However, we can see that some students can not apply her class because there are not enough seat to accept. The class always are limited. Through this case, we can see that the demand for professor Harris' class is much greater than the supply of available seat.

  8. A time like that came to me when i was going to deposit a check at my bank. To the side of the bank there is a drive through ATM, a way that is faster, as long as there is no one ahead of you. So each time I go there, i check to see if there is anyone there, as the supply and demand way of thinking come to mind for which would be the fastest to deposit. So if there is someone already there, i determine it would be faster to just park my car and simply use a walk-up ATM.

  9. Everytime I try to get food for lunch after my last class at twelve noon, there is always a large line to get food at any of the food places in the SU. These long lines apply to both the taco bell line and the coyote one stop place where small snackies are sold. Although not in the SU, the commons also has long lines for food during lunch time rush. There is enough food available, and I believe that the demand of food by students is being met, but there are not enough people (i.e. cooks, cashiers, etc.) to supply the food to the students. I feel like this relates to demand and supply.

  10. when i see this question i think of the line at starbucks, ANY starbucks has a horrible line; clearly the demand for starbucks is high.

  11. Every time I want to buy a pair of Jordan shoes for my son, they are always sold out. You have to wait in line the day they come out in order to get a pair, so therefore the demand for Jordan shoes is high

  12. I'm in a band. Our band has no gigs. We demand them, but no one will supply them.

Haha, no but really, there are probably more bands than gigs available at any given time. I guess we are a part of the supply and demand curve too :(

  13. There was this new blackberry that had came out not to long ago. I was looking out for a 2 year contract and seen that Sprint had that Blackberry for free with a new contract. I was sure to get that contract and got it. It turns out they were out of stock. I had to drive half hour away to another store. The demand for the Blackberry is much greater than the supply for available blackberrys.

  14. As a college student there is one thing drives me crazy at the beginning of each quarter, which is adding classes. It is really not a comforting experience. I think many students have the same feeling like me. I think the reason why this problem occur is because there are so many students on campus. However, there is not enough amount of professors and classes to keep the pace with the increasing number of students. I think this is an good example shows the relationship between supply and demand.

  15. There is really not enough avalible classes at csusb because of maybe buget cuts and other things but its really preventing people to graduate on time. The demand is there not being enough classes.

  17. My fiance and I are pretty weird we like weird objects and things. We were both going through this magazine and came across these five finger shoes. We went to the local REI in Rancho Cucamonga, and the shoes were sold out. We called many stores in Los Angeles and Anaheim and they were out for 2 months. Here we can see the demand was greater than the supply.

  19. One time i tried to register for a class but i couldn't because there weren't any seat left even thought before 30 minutes when i checked there were seats. That for sure was because the demand and supple if there weren't that demand on that class i would have register for it at that time

  20. At my work people always come in and ask for jeans, pants, shorts in size 36. Most of the time we don't have what they want in their size because when we do, they sell out right on same day we put them out. the demand for that size is greater than what we have in supply.

When I got to the counter they said their supply was out and I would have to order one and pick it up the next week. The demand was alot higher then the supply.

  25. I was at the mall the other day and was wondering why there were so many people there. Then i realized people are getting there tax returns and are now shopping more. So i guess the fact that people are getting a little extra money (supply), they are shopping more (demand).

  26. I brought this shirt from urban and I accidentally brought the shirt in the wrong size. So when I went to go exchange the shirt for the right size the store did not have anymore a week later. I had to get the shirt shipped to me from another state and they only had 3 left in my size. So the demand for the shirt was greater than what the stores supplied.

  28. Video games. Video games video games video games. I mean, I demand a copy of SMT: Strange Journey but whenever I go to a gamestop they don't seem to have any copies available. I guess they just don't have the supply to meet the demand for the game...

  29. This story is about the price of houses and the government policy. Several years ago, the price of houses in big cities and near were formed so high that many people couldn't get their house easily in Korea. This phenomenon was caused by people's demand that they wanted to live in a big cities. Howevere, the problem was that the house supply was not as much as people's demand. Because of this, original residents who were living in that city from before even couldn't afford their houses. So, what did the government do for this situation? The government started to increase the supply of houses through building new houses and developing new satellite cities. I don't know how the price of houses is now, and whether the government's solution worked well or not. But I think the situation at that time was completely and economically related to supply and demand.

  33. It is obvious that the law of the supply and demand is indeed ingrained in our daily live. One anecdote we can always observe at the beginning of each quarter is that a plenty of students would bring an add leaf, walk to the professor’s office, and ask he or she to add them in the class since the class enrollment has already been reached to the maximum. Such phenomenon is able to be explained through the law of supply and demand. There is an inefficiency of shortage emerged when the students’ demands for each class exceeds the quantities supplied by the school for the students to choose their class. Therefore, the shortage springs out along with the consequence that there is a rush for the students to eagerly convince the professors to add them to the classes. Another example is that there is always something on-sale whenever we are hanging out in the supermarket or Mall, ranging from the daily commodities to the clothes. The hint is that why the manufactures did not want the higher price instead of the lower price in order to earn more profits. It is the natural incentive for the manufactures that the higher price they sell the products, the more interests they will get. The reason is because of the law of demand and supply. It is the general rule that whenever there is a surplus between the supply and demand, the manufactures have to lower the price so that more products can be sold. In the many on-sale cases, the manufactures supplied the products more than the maximum demand by the consumers at a regular price. Only if the manufactures lower their prices, are more consumers willing to buy those additional products, and thus it is going to reach the equilibrium quantity and prices. Therefore, the law of supply and demand maintained the virtuous circle, which eliminates the unexploited gains and wasted recourses in the reality

  34. I deal with this supply and demand all the time at work. On weekends there is always a line to get into Valet. One reason is that we have to wait for the valet attendants to take one row down to park first so we can pull in more cars but there is limited spots. We are only able to fit 430 cars in our valet garage. People always ask why we are so busy, its because there is limited space and many people are waiting to just get parked. At 430, which is a max amount of cars we will take in, we close valet until there is enough space to park cars again. Result: my work place does not provide enough parking spaces for the amount of customer that comes to the casino and park valet.

  35. Today while I was out with my boy friend we went to Costco to get gas because it's a bit cheaper than other gas stations and we waited in line for almost 20 minutes. So the demand for reasonably and affordable gas is higher than what can be supplied in a timely manner.

  36. So this morning before I came to class I made my routine stop at the Starbucks on campus. When I got there I realized there was a huge line, probably because it was such an overcast day today. So as I was waiting in this long line I thought to myself is this because there is a shortage of employees and registers to handle the amount of customers in the morning? I believe that the demand for coffee in the morning was higher than the supply of employees able to handle such a rush.

  37. In China there are some good restaurants that many people like eating there. Everyday there are always many customers so that we have to wait the dishes which we order for a long time when we eating there. I think this is an example for demand and supply. Demand of the dishes are greater than the supply.

  38. So last week I went to Victoria Gardens and intended to buy black toms but when I got there they were all sold out and they didn't have my size. Then I asked if they had sparkly ones those were all sold out too. I was disappointed, in the end I bought navy blue toms even though I meant to get black ones, so now I have to wait a couple months until the store gets new ones. Basically the demand for toms is greater than the supply.

  41. One situation many of us as students can relate to regarding supplying and demand is acquiring financial aid. Thousands of students each year are interested in seeking financial assistance toward achieving their degree, for any reasons they haven't received organizations offering scholarships or extra cash for college. FASFA is greatly demanded to pay for tuition, textbooks, rent, college necessities, however FASFA limit the amount of supplies for students that meet the requirements. The disappointing fact is not everyone receives financial aid, and the worst part is college is becoming difficult to afford due to the budget cuts. Now on my second year of college, I ask my mom input her information requested by FASFA, which my mom reminds me not to accept loans and that I won't qualify for FASFA.

  46. Right now with all of the budget cuts, there are a lack of class sections being offered for many classes. Because of this, there was a big line of students waiting to try and add into my Social Theory class during the first day. The teacher, unfortunately, had to tell them to check back over the course of the next few classes to see if anyone had dropped (since the class was completely fool). The demand of students wanting to get into the class was greater than the supply of spots available.

  47. Last week I went to a popular club among college students on Wednesday night, The Branding Iron. My friends and I had to wait in line for almost an hour before we got in. I got to thinking how this could be an example of supply and demand and figured the supply of space inside was much smaller than the demanded amount, people trying to get in on Wednesday. There was clearly too many people trying to get out of the club and they had to get some people departing for them to bring others in.

  48. I went out to eat at this all you can eat sushi place this passed weekend called Asahi. (SO good btw) The lines for dinner especially on the weekend get crazy long, but i can see why because there is such a high demand in customers wanting good sushi, its small size can't supply and accommodate everyone! But I was definitely willing to wait in that long line to get my sushi fix.

  49. I work at Best Buy and am constantly dealing with supply and demand. Every week that a laptop goes on sale the amount supplied by the manufacturer isn't enough for the amount demanded by customers. This causes customer disappointments. The biggest one I have noticed recently is with the Ipad 2. Many people come in to look for it however we are always sold out. Therefore people are willing to go on Craigslist and pay $100 dollars more than what they retail for in a store.

There are thousands of cars that are in demand of freeway space. What I am experiencing is a huge demand with a very low supply that causes the traffic build up.

  52. I feel that I encounter this when signing up for classes all the time. Everytime there is a class that is only available a certain quarter, they fill up really quickly and are nearly impossible to get into if you don't have priority registration. Therefore the supply of the class is much too low for the high demand of these classes.

Buy a laptop and wait in line for it. While the supply was limited them demand for
    This
Low price was ridiculous with long lines ranging outside the store. The demand was real high for this product. The demand for this product was greater than the supply.

  56. After a small gathering at a friend’s house on a Friday night I decided it was time to head home. The time was around 1:30am. Driving down University Parkway I noticed that the line for Del Taco was extremely capacitated, the line wrapping all the way around the corner. I would estimate at least 16 cars. The demand for food at that time of night was relatively high compared to the supply of workers in that time of shift.

  58. I tend to focus on gas prices quite a bit, and compare what I perceive is the efficiency of the gas compared to the price.  I notice that lower quality gasolines: (Arco, Valero, etc) tend to have higher demand with lower gas prices and brands like (Shell, Chevron,76) are higher in price but tend to be less in demand.  Because I commute so much, I tend to choose the higher priced, higher quality gas.  Less Demand, Higher Quality.

  59. I work at tyler mall and have experienced a situation in which supply and demand is clearly in effect. I thought about it when I was called in to work on a saturday at around 4. it literally took me 45 min. To find a parking space anywhere in the parking structure. The supply of of parking is nowhere near the demand needed for everyone to have a parking. Parking at the mall sucks more than than word problems.

  60. I see supply and demand everywhere I go. For example one of the things I see every day when I go to school is the parking at school. There is a high demand for parking spaces compared to the amount of students that come to school every day. Another example of supply and demand is groceries. When I was at the grocery the other day, and the price of milk went up since the last time I bought it, I was bummed. I had to buy it for my little sisters and myself. Milk is a very important nutrition that young kids and women need and I thought supply and demand. There is a high demand for milk so companies like stater brothers and even walmart will supply even at a high cost.

Because China has the great population problem, so many years, a lot of people can not take the train on time, or do not have the set on the train, that cost many people can not buy the ticket or get a set on the train. So far, the problem still unsolved. That is a problem about the demand and supply.
