Can you think of an example of each type of market structure presented in class today? No fair cheating on your fellow-students' lists. Try to be original...
The closest thing to an example of perfect competition is the stock market, an example of Monopolistic competition is the clothing industry, an example of an oligopoly is the television industry, an example of a cartel is OPEC (which is outside of the U.S.) and an example of a duopoly is the soft drink market (Pepsi and Coca-Cola). It's really hard to find a perfect monopoly since monopolies are illegal but an example of one was Standard Oil which was broken up into Exxon Mobil and Chevron Corporation.
I think the closest example of perfect competition is the rice market, as an example of monopolistic competition is the game industry, as an example of oligopoly is the mobile phone service industry. And also the diamond company 'De Beer's' is an example of cartel, the CPU industry(Intel & AMD) is an example of duopoly, and 'Network Solutions Inc.'(internet address provider) is an example of monopoly.
I think an example of perfect competition is an item being bought on e-bay. I would like to dare and say the U.S Postal Service is almost a perfect monopoly? I could say a good duopoly could be the UPS and FedEx. An example of oligopoly could perhaps be burger joints? A good example of oligopoly may be airlines? When I think cartel I think drugs...drug cartels. This blog was hard. ]:
An example of a perfect competition is the New York Stock Exchange. An example of a monopolistic competition would be the clothing brand Lucky Jeans. An example of an oligopoly competition would be manufacturers of civil passenger aircraft's. An example of a duopoly competition firms that show high competitiveness
I think amazon is a good example of a perfect competition. The clothing industry is a good example of a monopolistic competition. An oligopoly can be the NFL. The oil industry is a example of a cartel. A duopoly could be mac vs windows computers. A perfect monopoly could be the public schools.
Perfect Competition is network transactions; Monopolistic Competition is cosmetics industry; Oligopoly is PetroChina; Cartel is grocery stores; Duopoly is China Mobile Company and China Unicom company for cellphone services; Perfect Monopoly is China Railway.
I think a good example of perfect competition is free software, an example of monopolistic competition is barber shop(haircut shop), an example of oligopoly is mobile service companies like AT&T, Verizon and Sprint, an example of cartel is music store in website (they set same price about per music price, a good example of duopoly is Kodak and Fujifilm, and last example of perfect monopoly is Saudi Arabia government oil indsutry. (They control over the oil industry).
For Perfect Competition an example can be those who are in the corners of the streets with their fruit stands. For Monopolistic Competition I say handbags are an example. An example of Oligopoly can be the health care. I can't make one up for Cartel nor for Perfect Monopoly ,I'll come back to those when I figure something out. And for Duopoly is the media.
An example of a Perfect competition would be the stock market (wall-street). Something close to a Monopolistic competition would be shoes (nike). An Oligopoly would be automobiles. A Duopoly perhaps would be Pepsi & coke. Last but not least Cartels would be considered as the OPEC and De Beers which controls the Diamond industry.
An good example of Perfect Competition would be the street vendors selling fruit,ice-cream and stuff. Monopolistic Competition would be chain brands like Hollister,Levis, etc. An example of Oligopoly can be phone companies like T-mobile,at&t,Verizon,etc. Duopoly can be like Coke&Pepsi. The best example of Cartel would be OPEC(Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries). Last but not least for Perfect Monopoly can be companies like Apple, you can only buy iphone, ipad, itouch stuff like this within the only company.
i think a perfect competition can be farming.. monopolistic would be the NFL. a monopoly would have to be fifa possibly, or if we can put an example of back in the day it would be the east India company. Oligopoly would be certain airlines. Duopoly could be UPS and fed ex.
One example of Perfect Competition would be farmer selling fruit beside the street. Monopolistic Competition would be the iPod. The Oligopoly can be AT&T. The Duopoly can be Coca-Cola and Pepsi. The federal government printing money would be a cartel. I cant really think of anything other than mac and windows. A perfect monopoly can be the supply of water.
An example of a perfect competition would be co-part auctions. An example of a monopolistic competition would be sporting goods. An example of a oligopoly would be gas stations. An example of a cartel would be OPEC. An example of a duopoly would be visa and mastercard. An example of a perfect monopoly would be the federal reserve system.
I believe that perfect competition would be ebay auctions. Monopolistic would be AT&T. Oligopoly is BP. A cartel would be OPEC. Duopoly would be Anheuser-Busch. and Miller-Coors. Perfect Monopoly is a railway system owned by a government.
I didn't read any of the students' blogs so that I can't conciously steal things! Anyways, for an example of perfect competition I would say free software and for monopolistic competition I would say that a product such as toothpaste would be a good example of that. I would say the television industry is a good example of an oligopoly and Kodak and Fujifilm may be an example of a duopoly. Unilever and Proctor and Gamble were recently found guilty for fixing the prices of washing powders in European countries. I figured that would be a good example of a cartel. The only example I can think of for perfect monopoly would be the example used in class for the utilities. Oh well, I tried!
An example of perfect competition is the stock market. Monopolic is smart phones. Oligopoly is car industry. OPEC might be an example of cartel. Duopoly is soda market which is Coca cola and Pepsi. Monopoly can be a company like Toyata because of prius in the hybrid car market.
For a perfect competition I think a good example are little food stands that are everywhere (outside the US) in under developed countries where they don't have fast food restaurants. Monopolistic Competition example can be clothing or shoes there is a large amount of firms. A good example of Oligopoly are the big four cell phone companies, it is almost impossible to enter because they dominate the market (Verizon, Sprint, AT&T, T-Mobile). An example for cartel could be all the casinos of Las Vegas because it seems like they work together to draw people into Las Vegas and spend their money. A good example of a duopoly is Mac and Windows because they are the two big companies that are competing against each other. For a Perfect Monopoly the best example I can think of is the Waste Management company is one of them because they are the only firm for trash and makes them a good example for this one.
Perfect competition is investment banking. A monopoly is the oil industry in the Middle East. An oligopoly would be fast food places. A good example of a duopoly is MAC and Smashbox cosmetics. Perfect Monopoly would be Apple.
Perfect completion market can be roughly the examples of Stock exchange, Free software, Agriculture, Street foods selling at the same price, and the like. Most of them produce homogeneous products, and there are a vast number of firms or sellers producing those similar products and anyone is free to enter and leave the market at no cost. Retail market, Higher education, computer software and operating systems are examples of monopolistic competition. The oligopoly market can be Automobile industry, Real estate, commercial market, Media industry, and Wireless providers。The Petroleum Exporting can be one example of cartel because it is made of a small number of firms which have a formal agreement among the firms and act just like one firm. The duopoly market can be example of Airbus and Boeing in the commercial large jbet aircraft market or Verizon and AT&T in the U.S. telecommunications market,. Standard oil and National Football League are possible to be thought of the type of Monopoly in the past. Among them, there is only one buyer or firm in the market.
One example of Perfect Competition would be the super market. Monopolistic Competition would be AMC theater, because AMC everywhere, more than other theaters. An oligopoly can be sell phone companies. The Duopoly can be Windows and MAC Operating System. For the Perfect Monopoly, I really don't know it might be some companies control by the government.
An example of a Perfect Competition is auctions, an example of monopolistic competition is medication companies, an example of Oligopoly is computer- automobile companies, Cartel-OPEC, duopoly Facebook & twitter and Perfect Monopoly is ARAMCO (the only oil company in Saudi Arabia).
Perfect compition would be agriculture, monopolistic would be higher education, oligopoly would be car industries like honda. An example of a cartel would be athletics, doupoly would be facebook and perfect monopoly would be some form of education.
An example of perfect competition could be agriculture, like a farmer's market. Monopolistic, a good one is one that another person mentioned which is Apple and the iPod. Oligopoly would be OPEC, or automobile industries. Duopoly, I think Google and Bing are two possibly in this category. A perfect monopoly as many have mentioned can be Apple since Apple products are only sold in Apple stores.
Perfect competition - ebay auctions Monopoly - Federal Reserve Oligopoly - Airlines Cartel - OPEC duopoly - Mrs Fields vs Chips Ahoy Perfect Monopoly - there is a certain car piece yet the name is blanking on me that all cars must carry but it is only made and japan and there are no substitutes for it, i believe it is a chip of some sort.
Perfect Competition which I can say Cars.com and Amazon.com as the sellers are price takers . Monopolistic competition is exotic cars like Italian exotic cars sellers like Lamborghini and Ferrari in Italy . An example of Duopoly in the United Arab Emirates we have Enoc (Emirates national oil company) and Adnoc (Abu dhabi national oil company) they control the gas industry in the UAE.
i think that any flower company or shop can be a part of a perfect competition because of the fact that people sell flowers on the streets as well as in actual shops, there is unlimited number of sellers for all a single product of flowers. A monopoly would be Apple, even though there are many companies that make all the same stuff differently, Apple sets prices and standards of products, like laptops, tablets, or MP3 players. I believe cereal brands fall into the category of perfect competition with the variety of store and name brands on the shelves. A primary example of monopolistic competition is cable for television, anywhere country that you travel to use cable as a source of entertainment. An oligopoly are jewelry stores, which at least one can be found in every mall, and carry exclusive goods. Fire Fox vs. Internet Explorer are duopoly companies that many people demand due to fast and reliable internet services. One place I consider a pure monopoly is a garden nursery, that guaranteed all goods are based for people who are interested in plants gardening, fertilizer, and materials. The Edison, electrical company is an appropriate company that can be classified as a cartel.
An example of perfect competition could be some supermarket, such as walmart, State Bro. Monopolistic- It must be Apple. Oligopoly-some companies sell cacao bean, for example, Cargill. Cartel-OPEC Duopoly-a Chinese mobilephone companies. Chinese Unicom-i think it would be pepsi and coca.

Perfect monopoly- The electric companies
After reading the directions from the question itself, i tried not to look at the other students response until after I write my own response. I know once I look at my collegues entries, it would alter the way I believe each market system's example that I would come up with. I'm not even sure if I'll get them right but at least I know it would be my own thought and guess. These examples would be examples that I see and experience. For perfect competition I would say the vendors at the swapmeet. For monoplistic competition I put Hollister Co. For Oligopoly I put television, Cartel I'm guessing Sony and Samsueng. For duopoly I put Att and Verizon which is a little similar to Cartel and for Perfect Monolopy I put Mac whether its the cosmetic company or the Mac computers.

4. Duopoly- At&t and Verizon (if you are not one of them your phone company is still most likely owned by them)
5. Oligopoly- Airline companies
